Increasingly, medical practitioners are delivering medical services via complex corporate and multi-practitioner practice arrangements. This raises a number of questions:
Do practitioners need additional insurance cover to protect their practice arrangement?
Who has liability for the conduct of employed or contracted doctors and other staff, particularly where direct control or supervision is not practicable?
Do individual practitioner policies respond to claims made against the business or is additional cover required?
Where you operate a practice, your personal indemnity policy may not extend to cover practice risks such as the liability of partners, companies or other persons employed by the practice. This is where a practice policy provides protection.
Use the below self assessment tool below to help you decide if you require practice cover
- I am in sole practice (I do not co-own, employ or contract other medical practitioners)
- I wholly own or control the practice entity
- The practice staff are employed by me or my practice entity
- The practice staff are directly supervised in their activities by me and do not perform cosmetic procedures
- I have less than 3 full-time equivalent staff (2 doing administrative duties and 1 providing healthcare to my patients)
- I hold an Avant Insurance Practitioner Indemnity Insurance Policy
If you have answered NO to any of the above, it is likely you may have practice exposures that would not be covered under your individual Practitioner policy.
Important Notice This information is not personal advice and you need to consider your individual and practice circumstances. Before deciding to purchase a practice insurance policy please read the policy wording available below.
