In May 2009, Avant launched a new Doctor in Training (DIT) package, which provides a single category for doctors in training who are:
- a Senior Resident Medical Officer (SRMO) in post-graduate years 3, 4 or 5
- a GP Registrar
- a Specialist in Training
- a Hospital Registrar who will begin a training program within 12 months.
The DIT package provides:
- Full membership benefits including:
24/7 emergency medico-legal advice
publications, such as our bi-annual DIT bulletin
exclusive online resources such as our GP Registrar toolkit.
- Broad medical indemnity cover including:
independent legal representation for a range of matters such as disciplinary, coronial, employment and training program disputes
$20 million civil cover for all private sector training within your training program, plus unlimited locums and surgical assisting.
- All this for a flat annual base rate of $100 (total ranges from $120 to $140 depending on your state or territory).
- In addition, when you complete your training and if you decide to move into private practice, we also provide a 50% premium reduction in your first private practice year and a 25% reduction in your second year - for more information see our Getting Started in Private Practice fact sheet
