Risk Advisory Service

Avant is a mutual organisation. High costs arising from claims are borne by the entire membership, so it is in the interest of members to keep these costs down. Risk management is about understanding the key factors exposing members to risk and assisting members manage their risk to prevent future claims and complaints. 

Avant's Risk Advisory Service (RAS) assists members to reduce their exposure to medico-legal risk. 

Risk advisors are professional staff with backgrounds in the health industry who are trained to provide expert advice, support and information to members and their staff relating to medico-legal risk. 

The risk advisory service has two primary functions. Firstly, it provides support and advice to members seeking to proactively address risk in their practice. The service offers self-assessment tools and resources, on-request practice visits along with education and advice. 

Secondly, it manages a high-risk member program to assist members with a higher than average number of claims or complaints. This may involve working with the member and their practice staff to assess the practice and identify any prevalent risk factors. The aim is to reduce risk through support and education, with advice and resources available to assist the member mitigate their risk exposure.
