Avant formed a partnership with the Australian and New Zealand Society of Cardiac and Thoracic Surgeons (ANZSCTS) in 2013. We collaborate with the society to educate their members on areas of medico-legal related risk areas, such as employment and training disputes, ethical practice and clinical care standards.
With the support of Avant, ANZSCTS aims to achieve a number of objectives on behalf of the profession. These include; establishing and maintaining appropriate programs of continuing education, improving the quality of practice. Furthermore, promoting and representing the professional development and interests of surgeons, and encouraging basic and clinical research.
The relationship between Avant and ANZSCTS continues to be based on education and advocacy initiatives.
Avant and The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO) have had a long-term association, which was strengthened 2016 with the signing of a formal partnership. The partnership enhances and promotes research, advocacy and leadership among ophthalmologists.
RANZCO is responsible for the training and professional development of ophthalmologists in Australia and New Zealand and they are focused on quality, safety and professionalism of doctors.
Avant supports RANZCO by investing in initiatives that promote quality, safety and professionalism within the field ophthalmology.
Avant and the Australian Gynaecological Endoscopy and Surgery Society (AGES) signed a formal partnership in 2016, with the purpose of supporting improvements in quality and safety though reducing members’ controllable risk.
Since its inception in 1990, AGES has built on its mission to promote the safest and highest standards of clinical and minimally-invasive surgical care for women through its three tenants of education, surgical training and clinical research.
The key focus of the relationship is education which supports AGES members to understand the boundaries when undertaking new and innovative procedures and associated consent management.
Avant and the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) have been partners since 2008. Working together, Avant and ASPS aim to educate plastic surgeons and their practices on common medico-legal risk areas to ultimately improve quality and safety and provide better patient outcomes.
ASPS are the peak body for specialist plastic surgeons (both reconstructive and cosmetic). Their main role is to protect the integrity of plastic surgery as a speciality and their mission is to provide the highest quality care to all Australians.
The partnership focus is primarily on education for trainees.
Avant and the Australian Orthopaedic Association (AOA) signed a formal partnership agreement in January 2017, making Avant the Diamond MDO Partner of AOA. We are working closely together at a national and state level to enhance current AOA initiatives for trainees and consultants in the areas of medico-legal risk management, professionalism, ethics and leadership.
Founded in 1937 AOA is the peak professional organisation for orthopaedic surgery in Australia. They provide high-quality specialist education, training and continuing professional development and committed to ensuring the highest possible standard of orthopaedic care.
The partnership also involves the organisations working to together to advocate and drive changes to improve the environment in which orthopaedic surgeons practice.
Avant has partnered with The Australian Association of Practice Management (AAPM) since 2013. We work together to promote the value of having a skilled practice manager in every practice.
AAPM is committed to improving the efficiency and effectiveness of healthcare practice management for better patient outcomes and actively advocate to provide advice and input into important issues and policies for the sector.
A key area of the partnership is The Avant AAPM Scholarship Program, which awards five practice managers scholarships to further their education and training at the University of New England Partnerships.
The partnership has also allowed the development of a Practice Managers Resource Centre, which helps AAPM members protect, improve and grow their practice.
Avant formed a partnership with the Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand (USANZ) in 2010 to support USANZ to achieve its vision: working for the urologist community to ensure best access to the quality urological care its members can provide.
Founded in 1937, USANZ is the peak professional body for urological surgeons in Australia and New Zealand. USANZ administers the Surgical Education and Training program in urology through the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and organises continuing professional development activities for its members.
Over the life of the partnership, Avant and USANZ have worked closely together to educate urologists and urology trainees on common medico-legal risk areas.
Avant has partnered with onthewards to develop risk management content tailored for junior doctors.
onthewards is a free, open access medical education website addressing a gap in formal education for medical students and junior doctors. It is run by junior doctors and dedicated to delivering practical, high quality online resources.
What started as podcasts for junior doctors at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital grew into a website that improves the availability of online resources for early career doctors.
Avant has been a proud supporter of Interplast since 2009.
Interplast exists to repair bodies and rebuild lives through sending teams of volunteer plastic and reconstructive surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses and allied health professionals to provide life-changing surgery and medical training in 17 countries across the Asia Pacific region.
Avant’s support provides funding for the Interplast programs and we are rewarded by knowing that we are helping doctors, surgeons and anaesthetists practitioners find opportunities to give back through volunteering in areas of need.
Each year, Avant offers one medical student the chance to accompany an Interplast surgical team on an international trip. The student has the opportunity to observe the Interplast team of volunteers conduct their inspirational work that changes many people’s lives.
Avant formed a partnership with the Intensive Care Foundation (ICF) and College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM) in 2018. The parties will work closely to provide solutions to support and protect intensive care specialists. The focus is on working together to enhance the capabilities of these doctors throughout their careers. Avant looks forward to developing this relationship further in the coming years.
