As a mutual, we are wholly owned by our members, who are at the heart of everything we do. To ensure that we best serve our members, in 2015 we reviewed the range of formal mechanism through which we engage with our members so that these are best aligned with the future needs of Avant and our members.
Through the process of consulting with members, we realise we have the opportunity to increase our capacity to engage nationally with medical stakeholders through our advocacy function and better harness our members’ local expertise and experience at the state level. We have therefore decided to introduce the following new structure in 2016.
Six elected members, governing and setting the strategic direction for Avant. Find out more
Other Avant boards include Avant Insurance Limited and The Doctors' Health Fund Pty Ltd
The State Member Advisory Groups provide input on issues impacting doctors at a state level and act as a strong voice for members’ collective interests.
The groups include elected directors from Avant’s Board and members from over 20 specialties, to ensure the diversity of member opinions and interests are effectively represented.
In the 2017 financial year, over 70 of our members from across Australia contributed to discussions on a wide range of topics through these groups.
In order to capture the interest of our wider membership, we have decided to create an Avant National Medical Advisory Register (ANMAR). This will contain all Avant members who have indicated a willingness to contribute to Avant through one of our committees or directly on a relevant issue or topic. In time we expect to create communities of interests from this group that consider specific issues.
