Avant Law wins international award for Australian ‘Law Firm of the Year’

Jan 16, 2017

Avant Law, the largest specialist medico-legal law firm in Australia, and Pamela Michael, National Legal Director of Avant Law, have recently been recognised internationally for their world-class performance at the ACQ Magazine Global Awards 2016.

Avant Law has been awarded ‘Australia – Law Firm of the Year (Medical Indemnity Insurance)’ at the ACQ Global Awards which celebrate achievement, innovation and brilliance. The award reflects Avant Law’s commitment to supporting our members on an extensive range and volume of medico-legal matters across Australia and the unparalleled specialist defence expertise of our 48 medico-legal experts across every relevant matter of law and jurisdiction.

‘To receive the ‘Australia – Law Firm of the Year’ award brings me a lot of pride. It is recognition of my state and national teams for all of the work that they do to assist our members. I am very proud of how they have supported me in my roles– I couldn’t do what I do without them,’ Pamela said.

Hosted by ACQ Magazine and the ACQ5 news portal, the awards recognise industry leaders, eminent individuals, exemplary teams and distinguished businesses which represent the benchmark of performance and best practice in a variety of fields. The awards are divided into company, practice area, individual and firm-wide categories within the public and private sectors, and judged on the nominations in each category.

Under the 2016 awards program, 128,000 industry peers were invited to make nominations and winners were chosen based on 75,246 nominations and a rigorous evaluation process. Award nominees who received an average of a four star rating or above were short listed.

‘The nominations poll was not only designed to reflect actual performance in any particular area of expertise, it was also aimed to reflect direct market share based on a number of criteria and voters were encouraged to base their decisions on addressing professionalism: experience, value for money and responsiveness in order for ACQ5 to derive a numerical rating from one – five,’ACQ Magazine said. ‘This poll should be considered a reflection of how professionals view any legal practice, individual or related sector supplier in terms of overall quality of service.’

It is a testament to the commitment, leadership, and expertise Pamela (pictured) has brought to Avant Law that she has also been recognised as ‘Australia Gamechanger of the Year’ in the medical indemnity insurance category.

Pamela, who also has a BHSc (Nursing), is an accomplished solicitor and holds a breadth of experience at some of Australia’s leading law firms and premier healthcare institutions. Her experience in medical defence litigation and administrative, coronial, professional conduct, corporate and commercial law, combined with her specialist nursing skills has provided her with a unique perspective on the law and its application to the healthcare sector. Pamela has six years’ experience at Avant and also holds a Postgraduate Certificate of Management from the Macquarie University Graduate School of Management in Sydney.

Pamela was recently named Best Medical Indemnity Insurance Specialist at the 2016 Women in Wealth Awards and Best Doctor Defence Lawyer 2016. She also received an Award for Excellence in Medical Indemnity Insurance at the Businesswoman Awards 2016.
