Embracing and getting involved in e-health

Jan 31, 2017

The benefits of e-health initiatives in a modern health system are exciting.

How do you think technology will shape the future of medicine? To get you thinking, here’s a thoughtful podcast on eHealth, developed recently by onthewards.

In the podcast, onthewards founder Dr James Edwards talks to Professor Tim Shaw about the challenges of implementing technologies into the health system and how junior doctors can get involved. Tim Shaw is the Professor of eHealth and Director of Research in Implementation Science and eHealth Group (RISe) in the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Sydney. You can also find a summary of the interview by Dr Elizabeth Campbell, RMO.

We want your input

Our Advocacy team has published a discussion paper on telehealth. As a mutual, we are committed to using our combined resources and experience to the advantage of our members. Our Medico-Legal Advisory Service advises members who have encountered or have concerns about medico-legal issues associated with a range of telehealth services. And so we also acknowledge that e-health systems must address issues around practitioners’ medico-legal risk.

Avant and onthewards partnership

Avant has partnered with onthewards, a free open access medical education website dedicated to creating resources for the doctors of today and tomorrow. onthewards was developed to address the gap in formal education specifically designed for, and aimed at, medical students and junior doctors. Educational topics are selected by junior doctors for junior doctors.

What started as podcasts for junior doctors at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital grew into a website available to everyone after increasing interest from doctors across different hospitals expressed their interest. Avant and onthewards have committed to working more closely together to develop risk management content tailored for junior doctors.

Avant sponsors onthewards as part of our strategic partnerships program.
