An app to track your mental health

Sometimes it’s difficult to objectively monitor your own mental health. The My Well-Being Index app provides a quick and simple way for you to assess your mental health, so you know when action is required.

The app is free for Avant members and once you set it up for the first time, it only takes a very short amount of time to use it to monitor your mental health each month.

"It is such a small time commitment," says Dr John Ward, an emergency medicine registrar. "No longer than 20 seconds a month to answer nine simple yes/no questions."

"It’s a very easy way of monitoring my own mental health in simple graphic representations."

The app charts your mental health so you can easily see when it is deteriorating, improving or stable. It also provides links to resources for areas of concern, which you can access at a time that suits you.

Another useful app feature is comparative data for other doctors in a similar cohort. The app is 100% anonymous and doesn’t store or share any individual results but uses de-identified aggregated data to show how your mental health compares to other doctors nationally.

Dr Ward has been using the app since early 2022. "I initially started using the app as part of a local program at my hospital," he said. "Despite the hospital program ending, I found the app a valuable way of monitoring my own mental health so have continued to use it."

Dr Ward says he would definitely recommend the My Well-Being Index app to other doctors. "As someone who is quite time poor, it’s a simple way to keep track of my own mental health."
